The Detroit Diesel Engines Today

The Detroit Diesel Corporation and its engines have expanded and improved from 2010 to the present. They have introduced a number of novel ideas, including the Remote Diagnostics System and the BlueTEC® emissions technology. In order to help owners maintain their engines for many years of use, the business has grown to offer a wide variety of components and services. By changing the name of the business to Detroit in 2011, they demonstrated their desire to grow.

The company continues to produce a complete variety of engines for applications in the mid- to heavy-duty range in addition to providing parts. Each of their engines complies with the EPA greenhouse emission limits as of 2017. To go along with their engines, they also produce transmissions, safety systems, and telematics. Even now, Detroit-made goods continue to set industry standards.

Detroit Diesel engines are used in a wide range of applications, from recreational vehicles and boats to generators and other industrial uses. With more than 800 parts and distribution facilities spread over North America alone, their network is extensive. They ensure that their engines continue to run for hundreds of thousands of miles while supplying businesses all over the world with high-quality goods.

The Detroit Diesel Corporation has a long and illustrious history. The business established itself as a well-known brand and one of the leading engine producers on the market from the 1930s to the present.

The Most Loved Detroit Diesel Engine: Series 60

The Detroit Diesel Series 60 is without a doubt the best diesel engine ever made for class 8 vehicles.

Due to its simplicity of use and ability to provide real-time updates to the driver, the first diesel ECM was incredibly well-liked by consumers. Engine diagnostics, shutdown timers, progressive shift functions, fault history and record keeping, speed limiting governors, cruise control, and automated stall prevention were among the features of the DDEC system. Due to its ability to save fuel, cruise control technology was especially well-liked by fleet managers. Most notably, though, the DDEC system allowed the driver to download engine management reports regarding engine use, provide a record of over-speeding, excessive idle time, hard breaking, and other parameters. The DDEC allowed dealers to alter the horsepower levels, and in some situations, the computer could be loaded with proprietary software. The system was simple to use, and the driver could view diagnostic codes in real time. Red indication lights indicated a critical problem, while yellow lights indicated a less serious problem. The contemporary ECM was not created by Detroit Diesel; rather, it was General Motors' ECM technology from the early 1980s that was converted for use with diesel technology. BMW developed the first ECM in 1939 for the Kommandogerat airplane during World War II. The electronic era for diesel engines began with the DDEC boom.

From 1987 until 2007, Detroit Diesel produced the DDEC I, DDEC II, DDEC III, DDEC IV, and 14L/DDEC V hybrid engines after the Series 60 became its most widely purchased diesel engine. The first significant diesel engine to open the lead cam on a larger bore was the Series 60. The 14.0 L engine took the place of the DDEC IV in 2007 and could produce up to 575 horsepower. Millions of Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines are still in use today, and thanks to their unrestricted open source design, they are very simple to remanufacture. Freightliner and Penske trucks both had exclusive agreements for 20 years to use Series 60 engines in their vehicles. Indonesia is no exception when it comes to the use and love of the Series 60 engine.
